Q. |
What is Vax-D Spinal Decompression
and how does it work? |
| A. |
Vax-D Spinal Decompression is a patented medical
technology that gently stretches the spine and
decompresses discs. Pressures in the lower
lumber spine can be as high as +180 mm of
mercury during many common daily activities. Vax-D
Spinal Decompression Treatment is able to reduce
the pressure in the lumbar spine down to levels
of –180 mm of mercury, allowing fluids and
nutrients to re-enter the disc; reducing
swelling and relieving the pressure on pinched
nerves. In short, Vax-D Spinal Decompression
breaks the cycle of pain caused by bulging and
degenerated discs and helps the body heal
itself.
Patients are treated fully clothed and are
fitted with a harness that fits around their
pelvis as they lie face down on a motorized
table. A Certified Vax-D Spinal Decompression
technician operates the table from a
computerized console. Each treatment takes about
45 minutes. Most patients find Vax-D Spinal
Decompression to be comfortable and relief of
pain can usually be noticed in the first few
sessions. |

|
| Q. |
What
does VAX-D treatment involve? |
| A. |
Vax-D Treatment consists a series of 30 - 45 minutes sessions on the Vax-D
Therapeutic Table. Patients are placed into a harness that focuses the
pressure on the lumbar portion of the back. This pressure is strong but
painless. While they lie on the 2-part table, it slowly separates for 1
minute. In the next minute, the table parts come together, reducing
pressure and allowing a rest phase. These alternating cycles of
decompression and relaxation continue for the duration of the session.
Patients find Vax-D Therapy to be both comfortable and relaxing. All
treatments are administered with patients fully clothed however; 2-piece
clothing that separates at the waist and can be loosened at the wrists
is most comfortable. |
| |
|
| Q. |
Is there
a risk of injury to the patient? |
| A. |
Absolutely not. Comprehensive clinical studies have shown the treatment
to be extremely safe and effective. |
| |
|
| Q. |
How Does
Vax-D Differ From Traction? |
| A. |
Traction operates on a similar principle to Vax-D but is not nearly as
effective. Traction is also used to stretch the lumbar spine and reduce
the pressure on the back, but it cannot get to the root of the problem
and in some cases it can cause muscle spasms to occur that actually
worsen the pain. Vax-D’s patented Program Controls allow pressure to be
applied at precise timings that do not interfere with the body’s normal
stretch reflex and actually helps the back heal itself naturally. Also,
traction cannot achieve the extremely low level of pressure that is
created inside the disc during a Vax-D treatment. It is this low
pressure that is instrumental in eliminating pain and facilitating the
healing process. |
| |
|
| Q. |
How Many
Vax-D Treatments Does a Patient Need? |
| A. |
Patients with low back pain are first examined and then evaluated by our
physician to determine if they are a candidate for Vax-D Treatment.
(This includes a review of Medical Histories, X-rays and CT/MRI scans.)
If so, then an individual treatment plan (usually consisting of 20
sessions) is developed to meet the patient’s specific needs. Each
session is carefully monitored and reviewed in order to maximize the
potential benefits. Most people feel great relief after the first
session and experience a gradual reduction in symptoms as treatment
progresses. |
| |
|
| Q. |
Does
A Patient Require Follow-Up Therapy? |
| A. |
Experience has shown that the majority of patients who recover on Vax-D
Therapy generally remain in remission and do not require additional
treatment. However, some individuals who live and / or work with high
risk factors may require a periodic maintenance program. |
| |
|
|
Q. |
Will
Vax-D
Spinal Decompression
help a slipped disc? |
|
A. |
A
bulging or "herniated" disc is sometimes
incorrectly referred to as a "slipped"
disc. Vax-D
Spinal Decompression succeeds at
treating bulging or herniated discs over
70% of the time. |
| |
|
|
Q. |
If I’ve had back surgery, can I still
have Spinal Decompression? |
|
A. |
Having
back surgery does not prevent you from
having Vax-D Spinal Decompression unless
you have fixed surgical hardware used to
fuse the spine. In fact, clinical
studies show that Vax-D Spinal
Decompression provides relief for
patients who have had one or more back
surgeries. |
| |
|
|
Q. |
If I go on Vax-D
Spinal Decompression, how many
treatments will I need, and how quickly
can I expect to get better? |
|
A. |
The
number of treatment sessions required
depends upon the diagnosis and the
overall severity of your condition. One
treatment session is about 45 minutes
long. The total number of treatments
averages between 15 and 20 sessions.
Some difficult cases may require some
additional sessions. Relief from pain
varies with each individual and their
physiology. However, most patients will
experience some pain relief within the
first few treatments. |
| |
|
|
Q. |
Is Vax-D Spinal
Decompression better than surgery? |
|
A. |
In most
cases, Vax-D Spinal Decompression is
better than surgery. This is due to the
fact that surgery physically alters the
spine by removing all or part of the
problematic disc. Although this can
reduce the pressure on the nerve, and
relieve the back pain, the surgery tends
to place more stress on the healthy
discs above and below. Complications
from surgery can be severe and may
result in debilitating conditions.
Clinical Studies show that Vax-D Spinal
Decompression is successful in about 7
out of 10 cases. |
| |
|
|
Q. |
Are there any
reasons that I can’t go on Vax-D Spinal
Decompression? |
|
A. |
There
are a few individuals that cannot take
advantage of this treatment. These
people have conditions such as:
-
Tumors
-
Fractures
-
Advanced Osteoporosis
-
Pregnancy or
-
Certain conditions (diseases)
that compromise the structural
integrity of the spine and
discs. These conditions are
present in only a small
percentage of the population.

|
|
Q. |
How much does Vax-D
Spinal Decompression cost, and will my
health insurance or Workers’
Compensation cover it? |
|
A. |
Vax-D
Spinal Decompression Therapy is covered
by most insurance policies, either in
whole or in part. Generally, the cost of
Vax-D Spinal Decompression is about
1/10th the cost of back surgery. Workers
Compensation coverage varies by state. |
| |
|
|
Q. |
If Vax-D Spinal
Decompression works so well, how come I
haven’t heard more about it? |
|
A. |
Vax-D
Spinal Decompression is a relatively new
medical procedure in the United States.
The therapy has worked for thousands of
patients, and over 3000 patients per
day, worldwide, are now being treated.
The awareness of Vax-D Spinal
Decompression is growing every day, as
physicians and healthcare providers
learn about Vax-D Spinal Decompression
and the phenomenal results it has
achieved in numerous clinical studies.
As a result, Vax-D Spinal Decompression
is now becoming the standard of care for
chronic low back pain. |
| |
|
|
Q. |
How is Vax-D Spinal
Decompression different from traction or
the other treatment claiming to
decompress the spine? |
|
A. |
Although
traction devices can stretch the lower
back, they have not demonstrated the
ability to decompress the lumbar discs
and spinal nerves. Traction tables have
a small electric wench that attaches to
the head of the table. A rope and pulley
are then attached to either a cervical
device or lumbar belts. Either static or
intermittent traction modes can be
chosen, but neither have been shown to
reduce intradiscal pressure and
decompress the discs and nerves.
Frequently, Vax-D Spinal Decompression
research is found on traction table
websites. |
